Visit to Shringeri and Horanadu

We had visited our hometown during the long weekend we had due to "Good Friday". Our hometown Saligrama is in Udupi district which is in the coastal area of  Karnataka. On the 2nd day of our visit, i.e., on Saturday we had planned to visit Shringeri which is one of  the sacred place to visit. The place was around 70 km away from our hometown. We started at 7:30 a.m from our house in a innova. We were totally 8 of us including the driver. 5 were adults and 3 were kids. The road from Saligrama to Shringeri is one of the most naturally beautiful place. Saligrama is in the coastal part where as Shringeri is in the hilly region. The journey made us realise the beauty of the place where we were living.

The journey was exotic and we enjoyed every moment of it. Even though it was physically exhausting, since we were climbing up the hill and some of the kids experience travelling sickness, the oppurtunity we had to see the beautiful places were very good. I tried capturing some of the places while travelling in the Car.
After two and an half hour we reached Shringeri. We entered the Sharadhamba temple and did puja there. After the puja we were given prasada, which was kumkum, sugar cubes, sweet and panchakajaya. After this temple, we went to another temple where lord shiva was workshipped. This temple is very beautiful. When I first saw it, it reminded me of temples in Belur and Halebidu. The temples in Belur and Halebidu has more intrinsic architecture. I took some snaps here.

One of the main attraction in Shringeri is the big fishes in Thunga river. The view of these fishes in Thunga river was very excellent. For the first time in my life I was seeing such big fishes in the river. I washed my feet in Thunga river and took some snaps of these fishes.

After finishing our visit to Shringeri, we planned to go to Horanadu, the Goddess here is Annapoorneshwari. And it is mentioned that the food served here as prasada was good. Then we started our journey to Horanadu, which was 73 KM from Shringeri. The places we came accross while travelling were as beautiful as were earlier and I took some more snaps.

Since one of the road to Horanadu was under construction, we took another route to Horanadu, since none of us were very sure about the route, at one point we were lost. However we checked with localites and got into the route to Horanadu, by the time we reached Horanadu it was around 1 P.M, we then took the Darshana of Goddess, took the Prasada and went to the lunch. I was told that the lunch here is served as Prasada and it should not be wasted. I generally used to leave lots of food in my plate. This is one of my bad habit. However when i had my lunch there it was simple and tasty, they served Anna and Sambar, Anna and Rasam, Puliyogare, Payasa and Majjige. I cleanly finished my plate without leaving a single rice. After finishing our lunch we returned back to home this time through Kudremukh and Karvar to our hometown. As we travelled we saw more nature's beauty. By the time we reached home it was 5 P.M.
Even though it was very exhausting after the travelling. The experience was very wonderful. This was one of the experience which I would cherish for long time.
I came to know about the wonderful places we have in our own place which is more exotic than any other foreign location. I hope I would get more such oppurtunity to view such wonderful places.
